Jill's public studio is located in downtown Orangeville Ontario at the Dragonfly, Arts on Broadway, and is open six days of the week (map to location is on the Contact Page).

Portrait Commission

The portrait commission process is actually quite simple.

Jill (S. J. Pringle) usually meets with the client(s), and together they come up with a vision for the piece. Clients sometimes have an exact idea of how the finished piece should look, while other clients will ask Jill to give suggestions until a final composition is worked out.

Jill can work directly from photographs, incorporating objects, pets or environments not present in the photo into the painting if required. She is available to take her own photos at no extra cost for clients that live within (approximately) an hour’s radius of Orangeville (Ontario). Once a vision is reached for the piece, both parties sign a simple contract outlining the medium, size, due date etc. A fifty percent deposit is then given, and Jill starts the commission.

Long distance portrait commissions are just as convenient, as every stage of the process can be completed utilizing email, digital cameras and couriers. She is also available to travel to long distance client’s homes, with expenses covered by the client.

Once the art work is completed, Jill meets again with the client(s) to unveil the finished piece.
Once the client(s) are pleased with their commission, the other fifty percent is given.

Depending on the detail and the time of year, it may take anywhere from three weeks, to two months to complete.

Jill uses only high quality materials in her work so the commissions she creates can be enjoyed for generations.

Portrait Prices

The cost of an original painting or drawing will vary according to the size, as well as the number of subjects required for the piece.

Some portrait pricing: (pencil/sepia drawings are 20% lower)

14" x 16" - One Head and Shoulder Portrait - $950

Two Head and Shoulders - $1700

18" x 24" - Full Body - $2500

Depending on the size and detail of the piece, it may take anywhere from two weeks to two months to complete, but please allow more time from September until Christmas.

Jill preserves warm moments on canvas or paper for client’s to treasure for generations.
